How an internship at Fenego evolved into a scalable solution

From complex customer structures to smart management in Intershop

During her internship at Fenego, Robin Osan, a student of Applied Computer Science & Business at AP University College, worked on a real enterprise challenge for our client Daily Fresh Food. The goal was to make complex customer structures within Intershop more transparent and efficient to manage.

Lack of overview limits efficiency

When standard tooling falls short

At Daily Fresh Food, multiple organizations operate within extensive customer structures. A single parent organization can include multiple sub-customers or departments, each with their own user permissions and segments. However, in the standard Intershop environment, there was no clear and centralized overview of these relationships.

“Employees had to manually look up a lot of information within Intershop. This made management time-consuming and error-prone,” Robin explains. “The necessary information was often scattered and sometimes partially hidden. In certain cases, data could only be accessed via exports, making it even harder to quickly get an accurate overview.”

This lack of structure and transparency made it difficult to quickly determine which users had access to which customers and whether configurations were correctly set up. Especially in larger organizations, this resulted in additional complexity in daily workflows.

From complex processes to clarity and automation

A new management interface for efficient customer management

During her internship, Robin developed a microservice-based management interface integrated with Intershop, built using Angular and Spring Boot. The solution enables faster and more structured management of customer hierarchies, providing clear insight into main and sub-customers and their user permissions. Features such as saved filters, fast search and bulk actions allow time-consuming manual tasks to be completed in minutes.

Pragmatism and flexibility as the foundation for scalability

Handling enterprise constraints with a smart approach

Because not all required functionality was available through Intershop’s standard APIs, part of the solution relied on direct database queries. This required a pragmatic approach, while also providing valuable insights into enterprise architectures. Based on these learnings, Fenego will propose improvements to Intershop. Thanks to its modular design, the application is easy to extend and ready to scale with future needs.

Building independently on a solution with real impact

An internship with responsibility and ownership

During her internship at Fenego, Robin worked independently on a solution that will be actively used within the organization. At the same time, she received guidance and targeted feedback from colleagues, helping her expand her technical skills while gaining insight into how enterprise applications are built and maintained. Through regular feedback moments, the application was continuously refined and aligned with user needs. This combination of autonomy, support and real impact defines an internship at Fenego: not theoretical exercises, but projects that truly contribute to digital platforms and business processes. For Robin, this was the biggest motivation, seeing how her work creates tangible value.
