Daily Fresh Food's primary customers are retirement homes, where hundreds of residents with specific nutritional needs rely on their services. Preparing and processing these large and complex orders for retirement homes can be a challenging and complex task, requiring expertise in healthy food and efficient processing.

To address this challenge, Daily Fresh Food encourages its customers to order online for improved efficiency and accuracy. To support this, it was our mission to develop an attractive and user-friendly online platform that ensures quick and easy ordering, resulting in reliable deliveries.

Look, feel and usability of a B2C webstore

  • Daily Fresh Food offers an online shopping experience that is comparable to B2C e-commerce stores, providing customers with excellent navigation and structured, personalized information. The Daily Fresh Food store is designed to enhance the shopping experience for their customers and includes several features, such as order templates for both daily and weekly use, product images for easy visualization of orders, quality indicators, and pop-ups with nutritional information, including calorie count and carbohydrate content.

    The customer account area offers easy access to these features, allowing customers to manage their orders efficiently. Whether it is a small order or a large one with over 1500 line items, the platform is equipped to handle it with ease. The system ensures a fast response time, with an average load time of less than a second, significantly reducing the time required to place orders compared to the past.

New features and better performance

Daily Fresh Food has been a loyal user of the Intershop Commerce Platform since 2016. In 2018, the company upgraded to version 7.10, which offers a range of new features and enhanced performance. Moreover, the PWA (Progressive Web App), is an outstanding platform for delivering new services.

One of Daily Fresh Food’s largest customer segments is hospitals, where meal ordering and processing can be challenging due to the constantly fluctuating patient population. Traditionally, meal orders were collected on paper, which led to a time-consuming and error-prone process. However, with the Daily Fresh Food PWA, healthcare professionals can enter meal orders directly at the patient's bedside. These orders are then automatically consolidated into a single bulk order, making it easy to provide personalized service despite frequent changes in service users. The digitization of this process significantly reduces the workload and improves efficiency.

The PWA platform is an excellent example of the benefits of digitization in the food industry. It provides a streamlined, user-friendly solution that enables Daily Fresh Food to meet the unique needs of their customers, including hospitals, retirement homes, and other institutions.

Result

Future-proof, scalable e-commerce environment

The Daily Fresh Food e-commerce shop has undergone a major upgrade to a future-proof, scalable e-commerce environment based on the Intershop Commerce Platform. Fenego is responsible for customization as well as security and performance testing of this upgrade. Because Daily Fresh Food already uses a range of Microsoft products, it made sense to make the switch from an on-premises Oracle database to a hybrid SQL Server solution as part of the upgrade.

The new architecture has resulted in significant performance improvements, with faster response times even for very large orders, and improved platform stability. Additionally, the persona-oriented approach has enhanced the customer experience along the buyer journey. With Fenego's expertise, Daily Fresh Food is now 100% ready for its future growth ambitions and has already attracted interest from several new rest/nursing homes and hospitals.
